Osprey Lodge Senior Living presents “The Greatest Spectacle on Earth” to benefit New Vision for Independence”.

When: Thursday, Oct. 3, 2019 – doors open at 6:30 p.m.

Carnival games and prizes, costumed performers and entertainment, food and drink – all in Grand Victorian Circus Side-Show Style

Carnival games will be played with various simulated sight impairment goggles for heightened awareness of vision issues, provided by New Vision for Independence

Steampunk, Victorian, or evening attire is encouraged. Complementary photo boots with our costumed cast of performers.

Tickets include heavy hors d’oeuvres and complimentary drink at the bar. Cash bar available.

Tickets are $25 in advance, $30 at the door. All proceeds benefit New Vision for Independence of Leesburg, “Helping people in Lake, Sumter, and The Villages overcome vision loss since 2005.”

Close Your Eyes for White Cane Safety Day October 17 Beacon College

You’re invited!

New Vision for Independence, serving people with visual impairment in Lake and Sumter Counties and The Villages retirement community, invites you to our annual Close Your Eyes event in celebration of national White Cane Safety Day.

During this eye-opening hour, you will briefly don a blindfold and acquire first-hand knowledge of the abilities of our neighbors who are blind or visually impaired.

WHEN:October 17, 2019 | 10 to 11:15 a.m.

WHERE:  Beacon College, Burbank Hall, 118 E. Main St., Leesburg

RSVP by October 10 to Shelly at sgerig@newvisionfl.org. Pre-registration is required – space is limited!

Attendees will be taught how to be a safe human guide and then you will be paired up (so bring a friend or co-worker along!). One person on each team will be blindfolded and assignments will be given to complete a task with no vision, then you switch places. Teams will be expected to walk to various locations nearby within 4-5 blocks. Shoes for safe, comfortable walking a must!

New Vision is partnering with White Cane Coffee to bring delicious, fair trade, organic coffee to Lake County.

Their small batch roasted, organic, single origin coffee ensures is “the best you can get in both taste and quality.”

White Cane Coffee was started by a 22-year-old woman named Erin who is blind and on the autism spectrum, as are her brothers. They started this company not only to deliver excellent coffee but to provide jobs to people with disabilities at a living wage.

Vision loss is not the end

Kessler is three years old — and is totally blind. With the help of New Vision for Independence, Kessler is learning to interact with his world a little differently. He can continue to learn and thrive on his journey toward independence.

New Vision’s services are available to individuals of all ages who meet the following guidelines:

  1. The individual has a severe bilateral visual impairment (affecting both eyes).
  2. The impairment affects the individual’s daily living, educational, and/or vocational goals.
  3. The individual can benefit from services.
