What We Do

At New Vision for Independence, we are dedicated to eliminating barriers to independence for people with vision loss. We support individuals of all ages as they adapt to vision changes and navigate daily life. Our programs focus on skill-building, emotional support, education, and advocacy. Each service is designed to help people live with greater confidence, connection, and independence.

Our programs meet diverse needs. They offer practical skills training, emotional support, and opportunities to engage with the community. Whether someone is newly adjusting to vision loss or seeking long-term support, we provide options that respect individual goals and experiences.

Vision Rehabilitation Services

Our vision rehabilitation services help individuals adapt to vision loss through hands-on skills training. Participants learn strategies for daily living, technology use, mobility, and safety. These services support independence at home, at work, and in the community. Vision rehabilitation services are provided through our partnership with the Florida Division of Blind Services.

Support Services

Support Services address emotional, social, and community needs related to vision loss. Offerings include peer support groups, by-phone support, workshops, and group activities. These services provide space for connection, shared learning, and encouragement. Support Services are open to anyone living with visual impairment. No enrollment or referral required.

Community Education

Community education helps increase awareness and understanding of vision loss and low vision. Through presentations, trainings, and outreach programs, we share practical information about accessibility and adaptive tools. We also educate community members, organizations, and professionals on how to better support people who are blind or visually impaired. These efforts help reduce barriers and promote inclusion.

Advocacy

Advocacy is a core part of New Vision for Independence’s mission. We work to elevate the voices of people with vision loss through awareness and engagement. Our advocacy supports equitable access to services, resources, and opportunities. Through community partnerships and public involvement, we recognize lived experiences and promote greater inclusion.
