New Vision for Independence welcomed approximately 50 attendees to its Assistive Technology Expo on August 4 at the Leesburg Public Library, where participants had the opportunity to explore the latest assistive technology designed to help people who are blind or visually impaired live more independently.
This expo featured Florida Vision Technology as the exclusive vendor. Rather than hosting multiple vendors at a single event, New Vision chooses to partner with one vendor at a time. The approach gives attendees the opportunity to spend more time learning about each device, asking questions, and trying the technology firsthand. Because every person’s vision loss and daily needs are different, taking the time to explore a variety of options helps individuals determine what may work best for them.
The presentation featured a range of assistive devices, including tabletop and handheld video magnifiers that can help people with low vision read printed materials, view photographs, complete paperwork, and perform other everyday tasks.
After the presentation, attendees enjoyed lunch together and spent time speaking one-on-one with Annika, the Florida Vision Technology representative and discussing which tools might best fit their individual needs.
Events like this help connect people with practical technology while giving them the opportunity to experience devices firsthand before deciding what may be right for them.
