On Friday, June 12, New Vision for Independence participants enjoyed a memorable day of fellowship, learning, and community engagement during our monthly outing. The day began with lunch at Ellen’s Café in Leesburg, where participants gathered to share conversation, laughter, and a delicious meal before heading to a special educational presentation at the library.
The featured program, Wings of Liberty: A Live Raptor Experience, was presented by the Avian Reconditioning Center (ARC) as part of the America250 series, commemorating the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States. The presentation offered attendees a unique opportunity to learn about birds of prey and their important role in our environment.
Participants were introduced to four different species of live raptors, including a special appearance by Max the Bald Eagle. ARC representatives shared fascinating information about each bird’s natural history, biology, and ecological significance. Guests also had the opportunity to examine feathers, talons, and other educational materials, creating a hands-on learning experience that brought the world of wildlife conservation to life.
The presentation highlighted the bald eagle as our nation’s symbol and explored the importance of protecting these remarkable birds and their habitats. Through stories of rehabilitation and conservation efforts, attendees gained a deeper appreciation for the work ARC performs to care for injured raptors and educate the public about wildlife stewardship.
Monthly outings such as this provide opportunities for participants to engage with their communities, expand their knowledge, and enjoy meaningful social connections in accessible and supportive environments.
