White Cane Safety Day

Close Your Eyes for White Cane Safety Day October 17 Beacon College

Stay tuned for 2020 events!

2019 Event Info:

New Vision for Independence, serving people with visual impairment in Lake and Sumter Counties and The Villages retirement community, invites you to our annual Close Your Eyes event in celebration of national White Cane Safety Day.

During this eye-opening hour, you will briefly don a blindfold and acquire first-hand knowledge of the abilities of our neighbors who are blind or visually impaired.

WHEN:October 17, 2019 | 10 to 11:15 a.m.

WHERE:  Beacon College, Burbank Hall, 118 E. Main St., Leesburg

RSVP by October 10 to Shelly at sgerig@newvisionfl.org. Pre-registration is required – space is limited!

Attendees will be taught how to be a safe human guide and then you will be paired up (so bring a friend or co-worker along!). One person on each team will be blindfolded and assignments will be given to complete a task with no vision, then you switch places. Teams will be expected to walk to various locations nearby within 4-5 blocks. Shoes for safe, comfortable walking a must!

We hope to see you there!
